Another puzzle guide from Quinny! This puzzle is located in the verdant Caledon Forest (1-15), and involves jumping, lava, security robots and a mad genius named Spekks. The mobs defending this puzzle are low level and easy to defeat even for a solo low level character, though it's always better to bring some friends.
Getting There:
The closest waypoints (They both seem to be of equal distance from the puzzle) are the Brigid's Overlook Waypoint and the Gleaner's Cove Waypoint. Make your way north from Gleaner's Cove or west from Brigid's Overlook, go past Bay Haven (The human fortress) and head across the bridge. The swamp area before the cave entrance is filled with Level 7-8 Scaled Drakes, which breathe fire, and Scaled Drake Hatchlings, which bite. You don't have to dispatch of any of them if you don't want to, you can dodge past them, run into the cave and jump up onto the rocks, skipping them altogether. Once you're inside you will notice the lighting and music change, head through and you will emerge into the puzzle proper.
SPOILER ALERT - if you want to figure the puzzle out for yourself, do not read ahead!
This is Spekks' Laboratory. Surrounded by rock, beset by lava below, and turrets manning the centre structure which deal a lot of damage, this is an epic puzzle for a starter zone (It reminds me of the secrets in Abe's Oddysee, anyone else played that?). The main objective of this puzzle is to leap from station to station on timed energy platforms to get to the final challenge. To begin, activate the nearby control panel and start jumping on to the energy platforms as they spawn. Remember, they are timed so you must get to the next station before they reset.
As with most of the asura-themed jumping puzzles I have encountered, there are service bots dotted around the area that will teleport you to any station you have already unlocked by activating their respective control panels. Furthermore, should you die, you will be given the option to "reboot" the course with 100% health. Dying will still incur an armour damage penalty, so unless you want to spend a lot of coin on repairs, try to be careful and swift.
After you have made the jumps you will come to the final challenge of this puzzle, defeating all four of Spekks' Security Bots. Like most golems they have an AoE (spinning animation) attack, but thats nothing to worry about if you can dodge. The real challenge however, that is avoiding the energy beams that crisscross the path to the chest. The vertical ones work on an intermittent loop, so you can simply wait for the beams to stop and walk through, while the horizontal beams can be jumped over. The golems are level 10 but I defeated them on my level 7 mesmer easily by kiting them each one by one. If you find it too difficult alone, you may have to bring a friend. Once you've defeated the golems the beams will cease firing and you will have clear entry to the Splendid Chest awaiting you. Not only that but a service bot will be waiting to teleport you back to the entrance and send you on your way. Good luck guildies, hope this helped anyone who was stuck on this puzzle!
